Finals Day 2016 – update

The club’s annual finals day took place on Saturday 16th July. It was a great occassion with some very competitive tennis along with a family atmosphere and excelllent BBQ. There are more details and photographs in the Gallery section entitled Finals Day 2016.  If any of the people in the photographs want a higher quality image then contact Alistair.

New court surfaces – Artificial Clay

Those of you who attended the last Annual General Meeting (AGM) will know the club is planning to resurface all 5 courts in 2016, subject to available funding. The questions of how many different types of court surface and the physical nature of each surface are up for debate.  This is a major decision that will shape the future of the club for the next 15 years, so it’s important the club gets it right.

One option on the table is ‘artificial clay’. So when an opportunity to try out this modern surface arose, at Sutton and Cheam Squash Club, a number of members went along for a hit.

The video below hopefully gives a flavour of what this surface would look like and some of the players give their initial thoughts on how they found the bounce, speed etc.

Our thanks go to Simon Burgess for organising the event, Luis Castillo for videography and Sutton and Cheam Squash Club for hosting us.
